Mise-en-Scene Photography Assignment
"A bird's eye view"
When creating my sketch, I thought about the most achievable but fun image to create. I'm not an artist, but I've had to make storyboards before so I thought of this in a similar way. I wanted to capture a cat from the point of view of the bird that it wants to catch. Since my cats are not outside cats, I thought of doing this in my living room due to the facility of getting them on the couch and how I could manipulate the lights there.
For this picture, I wanted to capture the view of a bird flying over a cat who wants to catch it. Since my cats are not outdoor cats I had to do it inside. As bait, I used a very long, thin string that I got from an old squirmy. I got on top of a stool and dangled it to get him in the position I wanted. This way, I was able to hide the shadow of my hand from the shot as well as the string. Since the lights of my living room can dim, I used them to get the high-key lighting I wanted for the shot. I had to get on a ladder and position the direction of the lights so that they would point straight in the middle of the ottoman. It was difficult to take the picture at the right angle at the same time as I was trying to get the cat in the right position. In the end, I’m surprised, but glad it worked.
